Panther Wrestling held a special pre-meet ceremony for two seniors on Wednesday night. The first honoree was lone Panther senior Jase Grunder. Grunder, who is currently the #1 ranked 152# 1A wrestler in the state, was escorted by his mother, Jill and he is the son of the late Josh Grunder.
Panther coach Tod McCullough praised Grunder for his dedication to the sport and spoke of his 100th career win coming in late December. Grunder qualified for the state finals in his freshman and junior years brining home 4th place at 160 # last year.
The other “senior” was Coach Tod McCullough who was honored as he led his team into their final home meet with McCullough at the helm. McCullough has been the only head coach the Co-Op Panther wrestling program has ever had in its 26 year history. He also served as the head coach of the Erie and Prophetstown programs before the Co-Op was formed.
Last spring he was honored for gaining his 400th dual meet win by the IWOCA.
McCullough was given a lengthy standing ovation after his remarks by the large crowd that was composed of many former wrestlers the Iowa native has coached over the years.
The coach was joined by his family and given a commemorative gift from Panther athletic directors Brian Howell and Derick Cox.
The Panthers dropped both ends of their triangular meet with TRAC members Orion and Sherrard. Grunder and Wyatt Goosens were the only double winners for EP on the night.
