October 23rd The Dixon Scarecrow Festival offers fun for the whole family from 10 to 3 pm in downtown Dixon. There will be street performers, a scarecrow contest, a donut eating contest, line dancing, pumpkin painting, pumpkin racing, and craft and food vendors. October 23rd the Morrison Halloween Fall Festival will be held at the Whiteside County Fairgrounds from 1-4 pm. Activities include a parade, games, activities, trunk or treat and more.

October 23rd there will be a Paranormal Ghost Tour of the Conover Square Mall in Oregon. Now is your chance to visit the 120-year-old former piano factory and hear stories of mysterious and unexplained happenings while exploring the building. October 23rd The Dixon Historic Theatre is proud to present live and in concert the #1 Van Halen Tribute Band, Completely Unchained. This Van Halen tribute band has the look, the sounds and most of all, the FUN Van Halen created as one of the biggest rock bands in the world! Show starts at 7:30 and tickets can be purchased by going to the Dixon Historic Theatre website.

October 23rd The Dillon Home Museum in Sterling will hold their annual Haunted Train Walk from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm. Take a spooky walk through the grounds to the Baldwin Steam Locomotive which will be decorated for Halloween and operated by a skeleton crew! This is a free event & children will receive a goodie bag at the end of the walk and ages 18 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Call 815-622-6202 for more information.

October 24th starting at 5 pm The Franklin Creek Conservation Association invites you to An Evening at the Mill in Franklin Grove with dinner and a slideshow presentation entitled, Dead People of Illinois, that explores hundreds of Illinois cemeteries to find interesting graves and headstones, intriguing lives and deaths, and more. October 24th head to the Byron Forest Preserve from noon to 4 PM for their Halloween on the Prairie. There will be a hotdog lunch, hayrides, live raptor shows, pumpkin painting, native American tools, weapons and skills demonstrations and much more! No registration is required for this free event. All activities will be outdoors. Please dress for the weather.

Every Friday and Saturday night in October, Timber Lake Playhouse in Mt Carroll will be home to the Timber Lake Terror Haunted House and Horror Escape Room. Go to the website for all the details and ticket information – timberlakeplayhouse.org.

Now thru the end of October, check out Selmi’s in Rock Falls for the best in fall fun for the entire family. General admission includes the: New Outdoor Play Yard with Giant Jumping Pillow and many fun activities for the kids plus Corn Maze, Hayrack Rides, Haunted House more. Now through Halloween, Haunted Haven, located at Rt 40 & Grennan Rd in rural Rock Falls, is open every Friday and Saturday night from 7 to 11 pm. Here’s your chance to get scared silly at our area’s premier haunted house! Admission is $15 per person and follow their FB page for more information.
