A 74 year old Tampico man was killed in a single vehicle accident at approximately 7:40 on Monday night on Prophetstown Road near the I-88 overpass in rural Rock Falls.
The driver, Arthur J. Norton, was killed when, according to police and for unknown reasons, the vehicle’s right side tires went onto the shoulder of the roadway. The driver overcorrected and lost control of the vehicle. It rolled over and off the roadway, down a hill, during which time the driver was ejected.
EMS personnel arrived and transported Norton to CGH Hospital in Sterling. Lifesaving efforts were unsuccessful, and he was pronounced dead at CGH.
The Whiteside County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Rock Falls Fire Department, CGH Ambulance, and Slim-N-Hank’s.
