Sauk Valley Community College broke ground this week for a greenhouse for the SVCC Ag program. The implementation of a greenhouse was made possible through community partnerships including the Lee County Board, the Sterling Park District, and various Dixon organizations.

The SVCC Agriculture program will utilize the greenhouse to expand its curricula. This past year the Ag program successfully implemented multiple learning opportunities for students including hands-on experiences with specialty crops such as pumpkins and sunflowers. The addition of a greenhouse to campus will allow students unique opportunities to explore various forms of agriculture.

SVCC’s President Dr. David Hellmich proudly points to the “greenhouse as just another example of the college and our communities working together to make the Sauk Valley a great place for students and employers.”

SVCC is proud to be able to respond to community needs such as educating area students on the specific needs of our local agriculture sector. Feedback and additional community support for this project is welcomed and appreciated.
