Two major road projects in the Prophetstown area were started last week with hopes they will be finished in the next 7-10 days.
A stretch of Star Road from the Prophetstown City Limits to Yorktown Road was under construction last week as crews milled off the top few inches of pavement and relayed it. A final 1 1/2 inch layer of fresh asphalt will then be laid with a leveling device to ensure a smooth surface.
The same process was done on Spring Hill Road between the city limits and Henry Road and will be finished by the same crew doing the Star Road work.
A different contractor, Martin and Co., is scheduled in two weeks to do the city’s portion of Star Road. They will mill 1 1/2 inches off the current surface and lay a fresh coat of asphalt without relaying the milled surface. The city will lessen their cost by $200,000 by using that method.
