A small army of volunteers descended on Prophetstown’s Riverside Cemetery earlier this week to add flags and flowers in anticipation of the Memorial Day holiday weekend.

Members of Prophetstown American Legion Post #522 placed flags on the graves of those who served our country in the military.

Another group of volunteers filled planters with a variety of flowers and greenery. In all just over 300 planters were filled with approximately 1,600 plants.

Cemetery employee David Anderson brought his wife Gina and their grandchildren to help with the planting. The young helpers were: Kaelyn and Reagan Sibley, Derek Naftzger, and Hadley and Porter Bebon.

The cemetery will be planting 11 new trees in the next few weeks as well.
