Prophetstown residents, be advised that, in accordance with the City Ordinances outlined below, the depositing of leaves or yard waste onto City streets or alleys, and the burning of such materials in these areas, is strictly prohibited. Sec. 28-5. – Placing rubbish on streets.

a.) No person shall cast, throw, drop, place, sweep, or deposit any garbage, filth, dirt, rubbish, waste, landscape waste, or similar substance, whether liquid or solid, in any street, sidewalk, alley, gutter, or other public place, whether directly or through agents, employees, or servants.

b.) No person shall cast, throw, drop, place, sweep, or deposit any substance, article, refuse, garbage, landscape waste, or rubbish within the city in a manner that allows it to be carried and deposited by the sun, wind, rain, snow, or other elements onto any street, sidewalk, alley, gutter, or other public place.

Sec. 30-5. – Burning on streets.

It is illegal for any person to burn or allow the burning of leaves, wood, paper, straw, or any other material or rubbish on the roadway of any street within the city’s corporate limits, or in any alley surfaced with concrete, asphalt, bituminous material, or oil. Violations of this section are subject to a fine ranging from $100.00 to $500.00 for each offense.
