Prophetstown Artist Featured At The Loft

Submitted by Stephanie Vavra, Thecity1.com

On Friday, June 19, 2020, an anonymous benefactor began to promote The Loft on Main and Morrison businesses. The donor provided The Loft on Main with $10 gift certificates, to be used at select businesses.  Certificates are given to anyone who purchases more than $50 of artwork.

To conclude this promotion, final certificates will benefit any Morrison Salon and Ben’s Barber Shop. Certificates must be earned from Monday, October 12, through Sunday, October 18.

Available at The Loft on Main (pictured below) this finely-detailed pheasant is a print of Michael Dunbar’s original drawing. The two-time award winning illustrator lives in Prophetstown.

Artist Michael Dunbar’s rendering of a pheasant.

In 1990, when he lived in Davenport, IA, Dunbar gained wide recognition for his wildlife/nature paintings, after he won both the Iowa Habitat Stamp Print (of two White Tail deer) and the Iowa (Rainbow) Trout Stamp Print competitions.  Choosing the subjects for his designs was easy, because he has great respect and fondness for the grace and beauty of deer.  For his fish painting, he wanted to visualize the trout fishing experience, through an angled fish diving in turbulent water with hook in mouth.

Dunbar states relaying the beauty of wildlife and nature has always been an objective. His designs were formed by inspiration in his personal experiences with wildlife.
