January 14th, 2013 was a big day in the life of Larry Stewart. He had decided he would begin holding a free, weekly, community meal in the basement of Prophetstown’s United Methodist Church. The meal would be living tribute to his wife Pat who has passed away from cancer a few months earlier.
Six and a half years and 28,000 meals later Stewart has decided to pass the directorship of Pat’s Table over to Lindsey Petersen to continue to grow and improve the ministry.
Stewart’s final meal was on May 20th were he was honored with a mayoral proclamation and well wishes from the dozens of people who have been a part of the ministry.
He sat down for an interview this week to look back at his vision and talk about the unexpected impact it has had on many lives and the community.
