Panther Programs Receive Donation

403

Two usually unheralded high school sports got a nice boost this week as the Panther cross country and golf programs received memorial donations from the family of John Crady.

Crady’s wife Carol and their family held a 5K race in June in Prophetstown to raise funds for the two sporting programs. John Crady was an avid golfer and runner who passed away unexpectedly in June of 2020. The first time event drew around one hundred participants.

PLT 6-12 Campus Athletic Director Derick Cox received a check for $2,700 from the Crady’s which will be divided by the two programs.

Carol Crady said,” Our family was very pleased with the turn out, donations, volunteers and sponsors for the 5K. It was quite heart warming !!”

“Several of the program coaches shared their appreciation for the gifts. “It was very nice of the Crady family to have this event. I knew John and he loved golf and running. Usually cross country and golf are over looked and we get little for our budget, it’s nice with this generous donation the golf team can buy additional equipment for practices to sharpen their skills. Thank you Carol and family. Hope this event continues and grows.” EP Golf Coach Karen Wiersema.

“The cross country program is so grateful to the Crady family for putting on the 5K race. It gave the cross country athletes an opportunity to help serve our community while doing what we love! It was a perfect day to run and we were thrilled to see so many competitors. The John Crady family did a fabulous job. The EP program is very appreciative of the generous financial donation. The money will help pay for some of the meals we have after a few of our races during the season and help buy some new equipment. It gets pretty expensive feeding teenagers that burn so many calories. :).  I think the 5K is a perfect tribute to John as he was such an avid runner and helped so many people learn to love the sport. I remember being on the team in high school with John and Carol’s son Terry. They were always so supportive and helped in any way possible. We look forward to helping them again next year!” EP Cross County Head Coach Liz Green

“I was beyond happy to find out that our Middle School Cross Country program was a beneficiary of monies from the recent John Crady Memorial 5K. I had heard that the Panther CC & golf teams were going to benefit from the run, but didn’t realize that we (middle schoolers) were included.  The middle school CC program is growing and is a building program for the high school team and the funds are not always there for the middle school programs; so the monies will go towards equipment we need to enhance our athletes’ performance. Thank you to the Crady family and all the volunteers & participants that ran the 5K.” EP Middle School Cross Country Coach Sheryl Vonholten
