The EP Panther baseball team dropped a close one Tuesday afternoon to Sherrard 3-2 on their home field. The loss evens their conference record at 2-2 while falling to 3-7 overall. The contest saw very few hits as both pitchers had their strike out pitches working and dominated throughout.

Sherrard struck first in their half of the second as they scored their first run on a pickoff overthrow and a single followed to make it 2-0. A nice play by second baseman Reece Duncan on a ground ball kept the Tigers from scoring more to end the inning.

EP scored in their third inning at bat as a Kolby Franks double to center plated 2 Panthers to tie it at 2-2. Franks was tagged out at third to end the inning.

The score remained the same until Sherrard’s seventh when they scored on a wild pitch to take the lead and then shut down the Panthers in their last at bat.

Tucker VanDeWostine and Noah Wiseley were the only other Panthers to reach base on hits while Sherrard was able to strike out 13 EP batters. Coach Brad Tichler stated “We pitched well again but continue to struggle with the bats. Today when we did get baserunners, we weren’t able to advance them and went 0-3 in sacrifice bunts”.

Austin Cole went 6 innings for the Panthers only giving up 2 hits while walking 4 and striking out 8 Tiger batters. Kolby Franks pitched the seventh and gave up 1 hit & 1 walk while suffering the loss.

The Panthers get a rematch Thursday afternoon in Sherrard at 4:30.
