Laverne Dwayne Israelson, 90, of Erie, IL, passed away Monday, March 27, 2023 at Unity Point Health – Trinity, Rock Island. Services will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, April 1, 2023 at Gibson-Bode Funeral Home in Port Byron. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or Shriners Hospital for Children.
Laverne was born on April 22, 1932 in Geneseo, IL, to Carl and Leona (Parker) Israelson. He served proudly in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and was awarded the Bronze Star. Laverne married Lillian Redman on November 25, 1961.
Laverne was a farmer and a builder. He began building houses at the young age of sixteen. They moved to their current farm in 1967 where he has farmed since while continuing to build homes. Laverne enjoyed watching Illinois basketball. He enriched his faith by watching Oral Roberts and the Shepherds Chapel on TV. He loved to hang out with his special companion bird, Joe. Laverne was passionate about his family and country. He could fix anything and was always willing to help others. Most of all, Laverne loved his family. He and Lillian were inseparable.
Laverne is survived by his wife Lillian; daughters, Cindy Enyeart, Prophetstown, IL, Rhonda Foree, Albany; son Dwayne Israelson, Erie; grandchildren, Alicia Murphy, Matthew (Ashlyn) Murphy, Jessica (Nickolas) Olsen, John Enyeart, Jr. (Madison), Lynette Foree, Chase Foree, and Garth Foree; great grandchildren Andrew Olsen, Mecina Olsen, and Audrey Murphy; and nieces and nephews, Anne (Bob) Melchert, Kevin (Malora) Redman, Gregg (Martha) Redman, and Jeff (Kathy) Redman, as well as his bird Joe. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Beverly Scherschel; and son-in-law, John Enyeart, Sr.
