A visitation to celebrate her life is scheduled for Thursday, February 8, 2024, from 10:00 am to 11:30 am at Gibson-Bode Funeral Home in Port Byron, with services to follow at 11:30 am. Burial will take place at the Rock Island National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Riverdale High School Boosters.

Born on June 7, 1925, in Erie, Illinois, June was the daughter of Willis and Edith (Beale) Wood. She graduated from Port Byron High School in 1943 and married Fremond Orr on February 8, 1947, in Port Byron. June worked as a secretary at John Deere for several years and later drove a school bus for the Riverdale School District. Actively involved in the PTA, she dedicated her time to supporting her children’s, grandchildren’s, and great-grandchildren’s sporting events across various school districts.

June was an avid participant in golf and bowling leagues and cherished camping trips with the “Crazy Eights” group. Dancing with Fremond, playing cards, and traveling with Janice Wainwright and Elenor Pettit were among her favorite activities. Above all, June found joy in spending time with her family.

Left to cherish her memory are her children Gary (Kathy) Orr of Port Byron, Mike (Sharon) Orr of Taylor Ridge, JeriLynn (Doug) VerCautren of Moline; grandchildren Chad Orr, Katie Orr, Rich Skiles, Sherry Molander, Crystal Peterson, Cortney Orendorf, MacKenzie Griffin, Jeff VerCautren, Mitch VerCautren, Jillian VanOpdorp; 23 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her brother Jack.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Hope Creek and Compassus Hospice for their compassionate care of “Grandma June” during her residency.
