Dale C. “Doc” Vroman, 80, lifelong resident of Hillsdale, IL, passed away peacefully on December 5, 2021 after a short illness.
Services will be at 10:00 AM Friday, December 10, 2021at Gibson – Bode Funeral Home, Port Byron. Visitation will be from 4-7 PM Thursday at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will follow at the Rock Island National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be donated to the Hillsdale Methodist Church or a favorite Veterans organization.
Dale was born on December 17, 1940, the son of John and Margaret (Scheff) Vroman of Hillsdale. He honorably served in the United States Army from 1963 to 1965. He was a member of the Hillsdale American Legion Post 1144, was instrumental in getting it chartered, and served a number of years as its Commander. He also was a member of the 40&8 Honor Society and served as the Canoe Creek Township Supervisor. He was a member of the Hillsdale Methodist Church.
He was united in marriage to Jody Toppert Johnson, of Prophetstown, September 27, 1969. Dale was retired from John Deere Harvester Works. He loved to fish and hunt, and enjoyed animal watching in his later years. He was a passionate collector of many broken things. He loved to make sure all kids had a working fishing pole and had hundreds of poles at his house for any kid that just had to ask for one. He also enjoyed getting kids involved in helping with the VFW Poppy Day.
Dale was devoted to his wife Jody and enjoyed spending time with his brothers and sisters and their families and with any and all that would stop to visit with him and share a story.
Those left to cherish his memory include wife Jody; sisters, Mae Croft, of Geneseo, Viola Dennis, of Silvis, and Marion (Gil) Klockenga, of Prophetstown; and brother, Robert (Karen) Vroman, of Erie and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Dale was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, Carroll, Lawrence, Mike, Harry, Donald and five sisters, Ruby, Marjorie, Evelyn, Gladys, and Alice.
