A very special local organization will be getting a boost from the NFL as GiGi’s Playhouse Quad Cities is one of hundreds of organizations that are part of this year’s “My Cause My Cleats” event. During games played in mid-December, NFL players wear custom designed cleats on the field to later be auctioned to benefit their chosen organization.
Gigi’s Playhouse Quad Cities was chosen due to a local family and their involvement with the organization. The playhouse services families who have children born with Down syndrome. Former Prophetstown residents Brian and Michelle Yaklich and their daughter Zoey have benefited from Gigi’s for many years. A family friend, Dan Arnold, the starting tight end for the Jacksonville Jaguars asked if he could benefit the facility.
Brian Yaklich said at his sisters wedding in June, Arnold asked if he could honor GiGi’s Playhouse for the My Cause My Cleats weekend in December. The family was ecstatic with the offer made even better with Zoey contributing artwork to the shoes.
The family was anxiously waiting to see Arnold debut the shoes during his game this Sunday against Houston but unfortunately the UW-Platteville product is expected to miss 4-6 weeks due to an MCL sprain suffered during his game against the Falcons on November 28th.
Despite the disappointment of not seeing the cleats on the field, the recognition of the organization, along with hundreds of others, is a great boost for everyone involved.
