The EP Middle School Cross Country team is working their way through another season under the coaching eyes of Sheryl VonHolten and Tiffany Garcea. The runners have had some impressive team finishes and several outstanding individual efforts.
In the season opener at Oregon the EP boys finished 2nd as a team in a field of 12 with Elijah Franzen leading the boys with a 7th place finish in a field of 169 athletes. Rozlyn Mosher took 2nd in the girls’ race with 164 runners competing. The girls placed 7th out of 13 schools.
At the Geneseo Invitational the races were divided by grade. Top placers for the girls included Avery Heaton taking 8th place in the 6th grade race and Rozlyn Mosher grabbing 3rd in the 7th grade event. Ethan Brown took 5th in the 6th grade boys’ race followed by Logan Punke in 10th. In the 7th grade 1.9 mile race Aiden Garcea finished in 5th with Chase Yount crossing the line in 9th.
The 6th grade EP boys placed 2nd with the girls capturing 3rd in their divisions and the 7th grade Panther boys taking 3rd.
At Hoover Park in Sterling Rozlyn Mosher led the Panther girls with a 13th place finish among 124 runners. Two other Panthers were in the top 25 with Leena Hanrahan placing 24th followed by Avery Heaton in 25th.
8th grader Elijah Franzen led a trio of Panther runners who finished together. Franzen took 17th, 7th grader Aidan Garcea was 18th and 8th grader Braeden Punke placed 19th.
Both teams placed 6th in a competative10 team field.
The teams will participate in the Rock River Run in Sterling this Saturday.
