The Middle School Panther Cross Country teams finished up their regular season at Sauk Valley Community College on Saturday against Dixon under cloudy, damp, and chilly conditions.

Nothing about this year’s season though has been normal, because of Covid; we usually have completed 8-10 races before the regular season ends and this year this was our 4th meet. Coach Bomleny and I are grateful for the 4 meets we did get in as we head into preparations this week for Sectionals.

The young Panthers came away with 28 Personal Records out of 35 athletes that ran on Saturday.

Dixon won the girls’ meet with 18 points to the Panthers 45. Panther Places:  Sarah Link 3rd – 13:52, Aubrey Huisman 13th – 15:10.2, Saige Froeliger 15th – 15:22.6, Brynn Brown 16th – 15:25.9, and Lauren Punke 25th – 16:19.1.

Dixon also won the boys’ race with 17 points to the Panthers 48. Panther Places: Aidan Jepson 4th – 12:43.5, Tristan Hovey 9th – 13:28.9, Nathan Punke 11th – 13:59.5, Gus Schultz 15th – 14:45.0, and Alastaire Sweetser 16th – 15:07.9.

We were very happy with the PR’s for the athletes finishing out the regular season as some of them are looking to move onto Sectionals. The team has to be narrowed down to the top 10 girls and boys for Sectionals and those heading on are:

Girls: Sarah Link, Aubrey Huisman, Brynn Brown, Saige Froelinger, Lauren Punke, Baylie Snowden, Alana Little, Grace Abell, Ellah Brooks, and Jennica Norman

Boys: Aidan Jepson, Tristan Hovey, Nathan Punke, Alastaire Sweetser, Callen Keegan, Jackson Tegeler, Dante Pels, Braeden Punke, Jakob Brooks, and Gus Schultz.

These athletes will be running in Aledo at the Hawthorne Ridge Golf Course at 10:00 on Saturday, October 10th.  This will be their last run of the season as there will be no State meet due to Covid.
