In August of 2019 Jason Schwartz of Prophetstown took the plunge into the world of author as he released his first book “After Z”. The zombie apocalypse novel was his first work, which he self published using Kindle Direct Publishing, which is Amazon.com’s e-book publishing unit.

He thoroughly enjoyed the process and immediately began on a sequel. Fast forward to 2021 and “After Z Part II” is now available to the public.

You can find the sequel on Amazon in paperback or electronic form. Schwartz uses the pen name J.S. Patrick.

Schwartz served in the Army both as a reservist and on active duty, including deployment to the Middle East. Since leaving the service he has become an over the road truck driver, which oddly enough, led him to become an author.

The Lyndon native and 1992 Prophetstown High School graduate got caught up in the zombie craze several years ago. Schwartz said he was always an avid reader and a fan of Stephen King and Max Brooks, who wrote “World War Z,” which became a benchmark motion picture depicting a zombie apocalypse starring Brad Pitt. Schwartz is also a big fan of the TV series “The Walking Dead”.

With hours of windshield time the OTR driver listened to dozens of audio-books, which built the foundation for his writing. Oddly enough it was a news story about a huge lottery jackpot that set the wheels in motion for his novel. He took the scenario of the lottery win and used it as a springboard to a battle for survival against a zombie invasion.

A synopsis of the work:

After Z Part 2
By J.S. Patrick

Six months ago, the world was plunged into chaos.

The ImDED2 virus had been a mere nuisance for a decade. World powers were at a loss for a cure, but managed to keep isolated outbreaks from becoming a global pandemic. Until New Year’s Day of the year 2020.
Just after midnight the Immuno-Degenerative and Epidermal Decomposition Virus (Strain 2) exploded, worldwide, subsuming humanity in tsunami of blood and terror.

Ryan Maxwell, and his family were fortunate enough to have the means to fully prepare for a possible doomsday and were able to ride out the initial chaotic months in relative comfort. Now, however, it’s time to search for family and friends whose status is unknown.

Family and friends were important before the end came, but how many will be still be alive…

Schwartz also created a short story entitled “DOG DAY: An After Z short story”. The story revolves around a family’s pet that becomes separated from them during the apocalypse and what happens to their canine Oaklee.

You can find “Dog Day” on Amazon as well.

Schwatrz is donating his portion of royalties from the short story to Happy Tails Animal Shelter in Rock Falls.
