The annual Prophetstown Lions’ Toy Drive is in full swing and the group is looking for donations and volunteers.
“We have raised the age limit to include children through high school and we have seen an increased number of families in need of a little help this Christmas,” said Lions’ President Teresa Bielema.
The “Toys For Kids” project is done in conjunction with the staff at the local school districts as they identify families in need of help in making sure children can receive clothes and gifts.
The process starts when a group of volunteer elves take a family’s list and shops for them. The cost is sometimes donated by the elf themselves, but most of the money is raised from generous businesses and individuals in the community.
Once the elves have completed the shopping, they gather for a day of gift wrapping and then get the presents coordinated for delivery. On the day of delivery to the family, the elves make sure it takes place when the children aren’t home, so the gifts can be hidden for the reveal on Christmas morning.
If you would like to make a monetary donation there are a few options. One is to mail the contribution to the Lions at P.O. Box 6 Prophetstown, Il 61277 or dropping off a donation to Lion Don Vogel at Farmers National Bank.
Purchased items can be dropped off at local businesses including; Prophetstown Post Office, Hometown Hardware, FNB, 1st Gateway Credit Union and the Country Financial office.
