Keep Morrison Beautiful at Community Recycling Day on Saturday

Different recycling stations are set up around the grounds for easy and proper disposal of items that are no longer working or needed. The Lions and other community groups work together to ensure items can be reused or recycled.

Items that will be accepted for recycling include the following: sneakers, tennis shoes (matching pairs and tied), American flags, eyeglasses, hearing aids, keys, cell phones, aluminum cans, ammunition, printer ink, toner cartridges, paper products such as cardboard, magazines, soft-covered books, and newspapers, (no hard covered books). FNB will also have their third and final community Shred-It services for any sensitive or personal documents.

Also accepted are electronics: computers, fax machines, telephones, calculators, cameras, camcorders, CD and DVD players, microwaves, VCRS, keyboards, modems, projectors, printers, scanners, shredders, string lights, and cords.

Medications such as old prescriptions, OTC medicines, vitamins, and pet meds will be accepted. Pills should be in clear plastic bags. No bottles, needles, syringes, or liquids.

Scrap metal and household appliances include vacuum cleaners, power and lawn tools, washers, refrigerators, dryers, ovens, freezers, water heater tanks, and vehicle batteries. Used motor oil and antifreeze can be dropped off at Kunes, 627 E. Lincolnway, Morrison.

Items that won’t be accepted include hazardous waste, paint, tires, propane tanks, plastic items, aerosol cans, household batteries, smoke detectors, or light bulbs. TVs and monitors will no longer be taken since those can be dropped off at the Whiteside County Highway Dept. at no cost.      

Monetary donations will be accepted but are not required. Organizers have the right to refuse any item. For your safety and theirs, all attendees should remain in their vehicle at all times and have items easily accessible in the trunk or bed of truck.  

The event is sponsored by TBK Bank, Farmers National Bank, 1st Gateway Credit Union, Resthave Care & Rehabilitation, Kunes Auto Group of Morrison, CarQuest Auto Parts, Republic Services, the City of Morrison, and Morrison’s local chapters of these organizations – Key Club, American Legion, Boy Scouts, and FFA. In honor of Earth Day, Morrison Rotary Club will also be giving out 300 reusable shopping bags on Saturday from 8-11 a.m. at Sullivans Foods.
