The Morrison Garden Club’s annual plant sale will be on Saturday, May 18 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at Odell Public Library. From house plants to herbs, hostas to succulents, or gardening tools to planters, there is an abundant selection for garden enthusiasts and green thumbs! All proceeds from the sale will be reinvested back into the club’s projects in Morrison.

A “Family Fun Ride to Rockwood” is also on Saturday, sponsored by the Friends of the Parks Foundation – Morrison Rockwood Recreational Trail, the City of Morrison, and Morrison Department of Fun. Get those bikes out and enjoy a leisurely ride with others.

Sign up starts at 9:30 a.m. at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church parking lot, 601 N. Jackson St. The ride starts at 10 a.m. to Morrison-Rockwood State Park, which is a 3-mile trek. Once back at the church around noon, there will be a kids’ “swag bag” giveaway, plus hot dogs, beverages, games, DARE car, and bike giveaways by Mead’s Bike Shop and Ben’s Bicycles.

The event is free, though donations are accepted. Bike helmets are recommended. Children 17 and under must have their parent’s permission, and kids 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

Start out Sunday, May 19 at the Morrison Fire Department’s annual pancake breakfast from 7 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Morrison Fire Station. Fill up on a breakfast or lunch of pancakes, eggs, sausage, orange juice, milk, coffee – all for a donation! Funds support the department’s needs.

The fun continues at “Swinging Sunday” from 1-3 p.m. at the Whiteside County Fairgrounds. All ages are welcome to this free event! Dance the afternoon away and enjoy a swinging good time with the 12-piece Josh Duffee Big Band playing tunes from the 30s, 40s, and 50s.

Local nursing homes will be busing in residents from each location. Picnic tables will be available but bring chairs if you’d like. There will be popcorn for purchase, an ice cream fundraiser by Paula Rodriguez and Linda Temple, and family fun for all! The event is sponsored by Morrison Department of Fun, Morrison Community Foundation, and Farmers National Bank.

The Morrison Heritage Museum is also hosting a Sunday afternoon historical program at 1:30 p.m. Learn about “Vintage Farm Tools” with the knowledgeable and entertaining Marc Gravert of Fulton.

Also check out “What’s Pop’n” at the MCUSD #6 Spring Art Show on Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Morrison Junior High School. Students’ creativity is on display at this visual event.

It’s sure to be a weekend of fun and entertainment in Morrison, so make it a destination for a day – or maybe even two.
