PLT#3 District Elementary Schools honored local Veterans on Friday morning with readings, poems, songs, and cookies.
Tampico Elementary School’s program featured the Tampico American Legion members presenting the colors and sitting in a place of honor. The students sang songs honoring the Veterans under the direction of music teacher Katelyn Thurlby.
Fourth grader Katelynn Peltier introduced her father, Army Veteran Bruce Peltier who spoke briefly about his service in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The Prophetstown High School Choir under the direction of Sara Naftzger also honored the Veterans with songs.
A military memorabilia display was featured and all Veterans and their spouses were invited to enjoy cookies and drinks at the conclusion of the program.
The Tampico American Legion added to the event by giving each student a flag to keep as a reminder of the day. TES teachers Karen Miles, Emily Grady, and Sarah Stitcher organized the program.
At Prophetstown Elementary, members of the Prophetstown American Legion Post presented the colors and were honored along with other attending Veterans in word and song.
Music teacher, Sara Naftzger, produced the event which featured music by the students including the high school choir.
