During the August Prophetstown City Council meeting Mayor Steve Swanson announced that a grant to build a roof over the stage in Eclipse Square has been secured.
Swanson was contacted last October by IL State Representative Tony McCombie and asked if there was a community project that could use some funding. He responded with the idea of getting a roof put on the stage at Eclipse Square.
Swanson said he was given a only a few days to get the pertinent information together and was was able to get a quick estimate on the project, working with Frary Lumber, and submit the request. The cost of the project is estimated to be $27,000. The funds were made available through a Capital Project Grant.
The stage was built about 5 years ago and is used multiple times each year for various events. Most recently, a summer concert series organized by Winning Wheels.
McCombie’s district should receive about $420,000, which will be used to help fund twelve community projects throughout the area.
Depending on schedules, the project may get underway this fall.
