EP senior pole vaulter Cameron Abell, competed in the National AAU Jr. Olympic Finals in Greensboro, North Carolina on Saturday. Abell tied for 20th place clearing 13′ 3.5″.
The senior experienced his first Jr. Olympic Finals under the guidance of coach Tom Unruh. Abell who has been performing in the shadow of two-time state champion Kyle Kruthoff, for the past few seasons, placed ninth at this year’s IHSA State Finals.
Abell qualified for the finals by advancing through district and regional rounds. He did not reach his previous best height of 14′, but will have plenty of opportunities to improve on that this spring.
Forty-Five other vaulters competed in his division, with the winner clearing 15′ 3″.
